Pulling together for the battle

On 20 November, Selangor DAP also held its 16th annual convention. The event, held at the Serdang Raya Community and Amenity Complex in Seri Kembangan, was attended by around 28 percent of the state delegates. Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and national DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng were the guests of honour.

Selangor DAP chairman and Kinrara ADUN Teresa Kok spoke about the need for the PR parties to stay focused on the main objective, which is to retain the Selangor state government in the coming general election. PR parties need to cooperate better in spite of different party ideologies, she said.

She also said that DAP hopes to see the Selangor state government speed up the establishing of cultural centre projects for the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities, the central pig farming project and holding the pilot local election project in Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in order to strengthen the local democracy process in the state.

Teresa praised the DAP ADUNs and excos for their good performance and personal sacrifice in serving their constituencies. In addition Teresa highlighted PR’s chances in retaining all its 36 DUN seats in the next coming general elections. “In an analysis by Dr Ong Kian Ming, he shows that PR has 19 white seats, 7 grey seats and 10 black seats. PR needs to win at least 3 black seats in order to retain the state government,” she elaborated.

In a new development for Selangor DAP, the state launched its dedicated website, www.dapselangor.org. The website features the names and contact numbers of the DAP elected representatives and local councillors in the state as well as latest happenings and events organised by Selangor DAP.
