Six Gets PBS Award For Services To The State

In conjunction with this year’s Penang Governor’s birthday celebration, the Penang state government awarded six Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) workers recognition for their services and contribution to the state. They were conferred the Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS) during the second day of the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the 73rd birthday of the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
One of the recipients, Md Rejab Idri, 55, said he did not expect to get this conferment as his teammates were merely carrying out their duties. “I am happy to receive this award together with my colleagues who have been very dedicated and cooperative all the while,” he said.
The six recipients were unit leader Md Jusoh Md Isa, 55, Zainuddin Ma’assom, 54, V. Arumugom, 57, K. Gannesan, 56, and G. Edmond, 55.
Besides sweeping garbage, their job scope includes cleaning drains, catching wild snakes, and removing fallen trees that block roads. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said 23 special squad team members in the council received a special certificate of appreciation and cash incentive from the state government in April.
Describing the squad’s duties as 3D — dangerous, difficult and dirty, Lim said the unsung heroes deserved the award for their diligent contribution to the community.
