Lim said this in response to Koh’s apparent defence of the private screenings of the controversial film ‘Tanda Putera’ by its director Shuhaimi Baba. The film which depicts the May 13, 1969 race riots had its public opening deferred due to its sensitive nature. However, it has been screened privately on at least two occasions to FELDA settlers and public university students.
Koh was reported as saying that such private screenings were acceptable, because the cabinet decision to postpone its screening is restricted to public screenings only.
“What kind of logic is Koh Tsu Koon talking about? Koh should not spend his final days as Minister talking nonsense and bringing disgrace to his position,” Lim said this morning at a press conference to launch the DAP internet TV station, Ubah.tv.
“According to that logic, you should go ahead and do private screenings for pornographic films,” Lim said to laughter of those present.
The DAP Secretary General said that Koh’s words proved that even in his “last days” in power, Koh has been an “UMNO puppet” from start to finish and blindly parrots UMNO.
“He (Koh) only listens to UMNO and does not listen to the people. He dares not speak up for the truth,” Lim said.
Lim said that the Tanda Putera film was a propaganda tool intended to create racial hatred based on lies, especially during the “eve” of elections. -The Rocket
