Rise up and destroy racial politics, Lim Kit Siang tells Teluk Intan voters

Malaysians must break the politics of the past, and push for politics based on Malaysian identities, rather than race, said Lim Kit Siang, MP for Gelang Patah in his statement today.

He urged Teluk Intan voters to prove the UMNO/BN leadership wrong in their deduction that Dyana Sofya’s candidacy there is a fatal error by the Pakatan leadership.

“The UMNO/BN leadership believes that they can deliver the DAP/Pakatan Rakyat a major blow in the Teluk Intan by-election, as they will be able to attack what they regard as the DAP’s “Achilles heel” among the Malays, Indian and Chinese voters in Teluk Intan,” he said of the intensification of racial tactics used by the ruling government to attack DAP.

Lim Kit Siang explained that the DAP leaders have been falsely vilified as anti-Malay, anti-Islam and labelled as communists, and condemned the personal attacks on Dyana on the social media, calling them vicious lies and falsehoods.

The Indian community there, comprising 19 percent of total voters would be treated to the promises of money for development and projects, he said, adding that Mah Siew Sin, the Gerakan/BN candidate for Teluk Intan, would play the “Minister card” to attain Indian voters.

He also mentioned that the Chinese voters, like the Indians would be “attacked” by a cornucopia of money for development and projects, and will be asked to vote for a Chinese candidate and not the Malay Dyana Sofya to the tune of BN’s politics.

“For these reasons, the DAP has a very uphill battle, and I will rate the DAP’s chances of winning Teluk Intan by-election as 40% to 60%”

“57 years after Merdeka in 1957, it is time for the voters to vote as Malaysians and not as Malays, Chinese or Indians, and the qualities of an MP is not whether he or she is a Chinese, Malay or Indian, but whether she or he is a Malaysian who stands firmly for a just, united, democratic, harmonious, prosperous and competitive Malaysia,” he urged.

“Can the people of Teluk Intan raise the stakes of the DAP candidate from the present 40% to over 50% in time for a victory in athe May 31 by-election polling?” he asked

Referencing the total rejection of Gerakan in Penang which was the party’s founding state,  the  Gelang Patah MP called on the people of Teluk Intan to save Malaysia rather than to save Gerakan,

“For the people of Teluk Intan must “write history and create a miracle” a second time in two decades to show the way for all Malaysians the direction to save Malaysia from becoming a failed and divided state.” -The Rocket

  1. I salute DAP for taking the bold and pragmatic step of putting a young political ‘greenhorn’ to contest against a mature ‘old bird’from BN. Winning or losing is not as important as walking your talk. Dyana is a clear example of DAP walking their talk. Its not about race anymore. Its about being a Malaysian and loving the nation where you are born and where you will breathe your last.
