Bukit Gelugor nominations day announces 4 candidates

With no representatives from Barisan Nasional, a total of 4 candidates were named at the Bukit Gelugor nominations day earlier today. Other than DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh, Parti Cinta Malaysia’s Huan Cheng Guan, independent candidates Mohamad Nabi Bux and Haji Abu Bakar were the names announced at 10.19am, just before the event’s closing.

Pakatan Rakyat’s Ramkarpal Singh will be facing 3 other candidates on 25 May and is the overwhelming favourite to win the elections by a landslide.

Parti Cinta Malaysia’s (PCM) Huan Cheng Guan was a former Gerakan  Vice President who was the MP for Batu Kawan until GE 12.

One of the 2 independent candidates, Mohamad Nabi Bux,  had reportedly told the press on Friday that he was a PAS member. This was however denied by PAS’s Mohamad Sabu. The other independent candidate announced, was lawyer Haji Abu Bakar.

5 candidates had submitted their names with the hopes of standing on the 25 May elections. Marketing executive Lim Chee Khoon however was rejected on grounds that he had failed to produce the deposit necessary.

The by-elections will be held to fill the vacated Bukit Gelugor seat which was previously held by DAP’s Karpal Singh who had died tragically in a road accident on April 17. He had held the seat for 10 years by being victorious in the 2004, 2008, and in 2013 elections when he won by a majority of 42,706 votes. MCA, who were defeated in 2013, had failed to produce a candidate for the 2014 by-elections. -The Rocket
