Roads in Selangor, especially Puchong look like “war zones”

By Gobind Singh Deo, Puchong MP

Gobind-Singh-Deo (1)I call upon the Menteri Besar of Selangor Azmin Ali to address the serious problem of deteriorating roads in Selangor, particularly in Puchong, on an urgent basis.

It is an open fact that the condition of roads in Selangor is appalling to say the least. Despite the fact that thousands of complaints have been made to the authorities in charge, we see little if no improvement at all.

People are getting tired and fed up with the apparent inability of the state to deal with the problem. We have the manpower and the funds, so what is the problem and why is there no enthusiasm seen on part of the government to deal with this problem?

It is usually further the case that patching works are done on a complaint to complaint basis. Not only are the patching works of low quality, but in just days the holes reappear and even in bigger scales. Despite knowing this, despite it being so obvious, what is the state government doing about it?

Apart from the fact that some of these roads look like war zones, they also pose a serious threat to the safety of road users, particularly when it rains as these holes become filled with water and invisible to the naked eye. Accidents happen and continue to happen. So why is there no urgency on part of the authorities to come up with a better mechanism to solve the problem?

I am often told that some of these roads are under the jurisdiction of the federal government. With respect, I am not and I’m sure the people are not, interested in the blame game. What is more important is the fact that there is an urgent problem which needs to be fixed.

I call upon Azmin to flex his muscles. He must demonstrate that he is able to solve problems like these. He must push hard to make Selangor a model state.

I hope the Menteri Besar will respond. The state must address this problem urgently. There is a also a need for all the local councils to buck up on matters like this. We cannot and must not take things for granted. We must perform. If we don’t, if there is no response, then people will lose confidence in Pakatan Rakyat and its ability to focus on the peoples problems in the state.
