Penang State files emergency motion against UMNO protesters

An emergency motion was filed by the Chief Minister in the Penang State Assembly regarding yesterday’s action by a group of UMNO protesters who had stormed into the Penang State Assembly.

“The Penang State Assembly condemns Penang UMNO for their irresponsible acts that included vandalising the Malaysian and Penang flag, the hall’s property, and threatening the safety of the attendees,” said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today.

“To prove that UMNO is not detrimental to our Malaysian society, the opposition statesmen must apologise to the state assembly,” read the motion.

Lim Guan Eng expressed that he was disappointed with UMNO Penang’s actions, who have scarred the nation’s democratic process and also threatened Seri Delima State Assemblyman RSN Rayer. Yesterday, Rayer reportedly uttered the words “UMNO celaka” during the State Assembly Sitting.

The motion asked for the UMNO group be brought to justice and for authorities to take necessary steps to ensure the safely of the assemblyperson.

Added to that, a special committee will be formed to prepare a report into the incident, the committee includes State Assembly Opposition Leader Jahara Hamid who is the Telok Air Tawar Assemblyperson. Although Jahara today apologised for the incident, a group of about 50 UMNO Youth from Wilayah Persekutuan branches gathered in front of the DAP Headquarters today to demonstrate against Rayer’s remark.  -The Rocket
