Upset over the hudud issue, MCA Youth has called on DAP elected representatives to resign and apologise for “failing to defend the Constitution” and being a “traitor to the Chinese race”.

These demands, made at a protest at the DAP National Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning, follows yesterday’s amendment to the Shariah Criminal Code II Enactment in the Kelantan Legislative Assembly.

The delegation of around 20 members was led by MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon and MCA Youth Secretary General Leong Kim Soon. Clad in white MCA uniforms, they held banners that read “DAP is a running dog” and “DAP is a traitor to the Chinese race”.

Speaking to media, Chong called on all DAP Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen to resign from their positions with immediate effect and also to apologise.

Accompanied by several aides, Chong handed over a stack of pre-prepared “resignation letters” for the DAP representatives to sign. The letters were received by DAP’s Head of Administration Department, Chu Yoon Ming.

The letters intended for the Parliamentarians to sign were addressed to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

“I (name) (IC number) hereby resign as Member of Parliament for (constituency) with immediate effect from the date of this letter, because I have failed to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and I am ashamed to face the people (rakyat).

“I offer my unconditional apology to my constituents due to my failure that has nearly jeopardised the nation’s future and the people’s welfare.”

Identical letters were also written for the State Assemblymen to sign, addressed to their respective State Legislative Assembly Speakers.

MCA has been targeting the DAP since the 13th General Elections for the latter’s relationship with PAS.

In the May 2013 elections MCA took out a series of advertisements in major newspapers like the party-owned The Star that declared “A vote for DAP is a vote for PAS and hudud.”

When it was pointed out to Chong that Umno representatives in Kelantan had also voted for hudud, Chong said that Muslims cannot reject hudud.

“As a Muslim you cannot reject (hudud). But make it clear, PAS controls two-thirds in the state assembly  in Kelantan, so with or without Umno, it (the amendments) will get through. I am not defending Umno but Umno move in Kelantan is not Barisan Nasional move. It has not been discussed in Barisan Nasional. So its a single move by Umno (Kelantan) to support hudud,” he said, adding that DAP has failed to control PAS.

However, when pointed out again that the same could apply to Pakatan Rakyat– that is, a move by PAS Kelantan is not a move by PR and DAP– Chong said “Let Pakatan explain to us, we are waiting for the statement, from our God, DAP king CM (Chief Minister) Lim Guan Eng,” before he ended the exchange abruptly.

Also present were MCA Youth Legal Bureau Chairman Eric Choo and Penang MCA Youth Chief Michael Lee Beng Seng.

One of the banners called DAP a “modern day Wu San Gui”, alluding to the traitorous Chinese military general who was instrumental in the fall of the Ming Dynasty and the establishment of the Qing Dynasty in 1644.

The protest ended at 12pm and the MCA delegation dispersed without incident. -The Rocket
