Dr Wan Azizah sworn in as Kajang State Assemblywoman

SHAH ALAM, April 7 : Dr Wan Azizah was sworn in as the Kajang Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) representative earlier today following her win in the Kajang by-election held on 23 March. By emerging victorious  in Kajang, Dr Wan Azizah became the 15th woman in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

The PKR president triumphed over Barisan Nasional’s Chew Mei Fun by a 5,379 vote majority; the reduction in majority compared to her 2013 predecessor was attributed to the lower voter turnout.

Despite the fewer number of voters, Dr Wan Azizah increased her vote share percentage to 59 percent, a tw0 percent increase compared to the 2013 general election. Pakatan also managed to increase its share of Malay votes in the Kajang by-election.

“I solemnly swear to carry out my responsibilities as a state assemblyman,” she said at the opening of the Selangor state assembly.

The success of Pakatan’s “Kajang move” brings Pakatan one step closer to Putrajaya.
