DAP Secretary General rebukes Zahid Hamidi for attack on the late Karpal

The Home Minister’s lies about the late Karpal Singh is dishonourable, says Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng while recommending that the Barisan Nasional campaign with honour in Teluk Intan.

Zahid Hamidi  had claimed that the late Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh did not visit a policeman from his constituency in Bukit Glugor who had died in the line of duty in Melaka. The home minister had then concluded that therefore the Pakatan Rakyat only fought for the rights of criminals, partly because it is funded by criminals in the last general election.

Defending the late DAP leader and the alliance, Lim Guan Eng said,

“This is a blatant lie because if true, PR leaders would have been charged under existing criminal laws for being involved with criminals”

“This attack against a dead leader like Karpal is most disrespectful and dishonourable because Karpal is not around to defend himself,” Lim also explained that the reason Karpal did not visit the policeman, Corporal Zal Azri because he was not in Penang at that time, and that it is untrue that PR leaders did not show any concern.

“Regretfully, Zahid did not mention that I had personally handed over a RM 3,000 contribution from the Penang state government to his widow, Atiqah Mohd Rsdi witnessed by Penang Chief Police Officer Wira Abdul Rahim Hanafi”

“I am disappointed that Zahid is now politicizing the important issue of national security, public order and safety,” said the Penang Chief Minister and Secretary General of the DAP.

He also reminded the Home Minister that the Penang state government had contributed the highest amount amongst all state governments by giving RM30,000 per policemen and soldier who lost their lives defending the country against invading terrorists in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

“The Penang state government contributed a total of RM 300,000 to 8 policemen and 2 soldiers who lost their lives in a ceremony witnessed by Zahid Hamidi himself,” he added.

Another Barisan Nasional leader who came under fire for allegedly lying about the Pakatan leadership was Wee Ka Siong, Deputy President of Malaysian Chinese Association. Wee had claimed that there has been a 300% tariff hike on water in DAP-led Penang since 2008, and that Dyana Sofya should speak out against it in the same way that she opposes the electricity tariff hike.

Lim responded by saying that the Penang state government did not increase water tariffs by 300% since 2008, but has just proposed and is awaiting approval from the Federal government for an increase in domestic water tariffs of 20%, to prevent water rationing by reducing excessive water usage.

He also said,

“The Penang state government is willing to be criticized for increasing domestic water tariffs by 20% to prevent water rationing but not the 300% hike lie. Increasing domestic water tariffs by 20% is preferable to imposing water rationing”

“I am disappointed that Wee Ka Siong can so quickly abandon his promise to stick to the politics of right and truth after winning election as MCA Deputy President.”
