\"chan<\/a>Pakatan Rakyat Sabah has filed an application to move a vote of no confidence against Musa Aman, Chairman of ESSCOM,\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>light of the series of kidnapping incidents in the East Coast of the\u00a0<\/span>state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Making the application was Klias Assemblyman, Lajim Ukin who is\u00a0also the opposition leader in the Sabah State Assembly. <\/span><\/p>\n

“We have achieved consensus pertaining the issue and therefore decided moving the non confidence vote motion against Musa\u00a0who is also chairman of the State Security Committee must be held\u00a0responsible for the failure of the Eastern Sabah Security Command\u00a0(Esscom) to ensure security in the East Coast,” said\u00a0Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Chan Foong Hin<\/p>\n

The application was submitted to the State Legislative secretariat on\u00a0Thursday by Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives namely, Chan Foong\u00a0Hin, Kapayan State Assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi, DAPSY Publicity Secretary\u00a0<\/span>Junz Wong, Inanam State Assemblyman Dr Roland Chia from PKR and Moyong State Assemblyman Terence Siambun from\u00a0PKR-Moyog. They were accompanied by\u00a0Kota Kinabalu MP, Jimmy Wong who is also DAP\u00a0Sabah chief and PAS Sabah Commissioner Haji Aminuddin Aling.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the motion, they have requested that voting be done\u00a0discretely using the balot box instead of show of hands.<\/p>\n

This comes as a response to the unending series of intrusions and kidnappings in the east coast of Sabah that has\u00a0been\u00a0<\/span>going on for many years. This includes\u00a0the abduction\u00a0<\/span>of 21 tourists of various nationalities from Sipadan Island in the\u00a0<\/span>late 1990s by Abu Sayyaf group and the Lahad Datu intrusion by Sulu\u00a0<\/span>terrorists last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the Sulu intrusion, the government had set up the ESSCOM, but\u00a0<\/span>instead of strengthening security in the East Coast, more kidnapping\u00a0<\/span>happened beginning with the abduction of two Taiwanese tourists last\u00a0<\/span>year, said Chan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite that, in April this year,\u00a0<\/span>two people, including a Chinese national were kidnapped from a resort\u00a0<\/span>in Semporna. A month later, the kidnappers struck again in\u00a0<\/span>Lahad Datu where they abducted a Chinese fish breeder farm manager, and\u00a0<\/span>last month saw\u00a0two people from Kunak get abducted.<\/span><\/p>\n

“These spates of kidnapping incidents had badly affected not only Sabah<\/span>
but the whole of Malaysia,” explained Chan Foong Hin who added that the tourism sector is losing an\u00a0estimated RM11 million per month due to the cancellations of flights\u00a0and bookings of accomodations in tourist hotspots in the East Coast.<\/span><\/p>\n
