\"\"<\/a>KUALA LUMPUR, 15 March \u2014 The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has faced its \u2018fiercest attack so far\u2019 on its websites, when a series of multiple online interruption paralyzed all operations of the party\u2019s online portals, hinting a high possibility of a politically-motivated sabotage.<\/p>\n

On 8, 10 and 13 March the websites were inaccessible, with users reported difficulties accessing the DAP\u2019s official website (dapmalaysia.org<\/a>) and the party\u2019s widely-read Bahasa Malaysia mouthpiece,\u00a0Roketkini<\/em>\u00a0(roketkini.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The status of the affected websites returned to normal on the morning of 15 March, but the DAP National Publicity Secretary, Tony Pua remained firm that the attacks bore political drives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can only assume that these attacks were politically-motivated and politically-funded and will only increase as the elections get nearer,\u201d Pua said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the fiercest attack we had so far,\u201d stressed Pua. \u201cSo bad that our service provider had to \u2018unplug\u2019 the server.\u201d<\/p>\n

DDoS attack politically motivated?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tony Pua, who is also the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara said the mode of attack used against the websites is known as DDoS, a computing term for \u2018distributed denial of service attack\u2019 typically targeting sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers.<\/p>\n

Explaining further, Pua said, during the attack, the amount of the data impact on the server for the websites was over 240 times the normal traffic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just give so much traffic to the site, so that the site cannot cope with it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Increased sabotage predicted as elections loom closer<\/strong><\/p>\n

The DAP parliamentarian also did not dismiss the possibility of the attacks to reoccur, predicting more \u2018perpetual attacks\u2019 on the websites come the 13th<\/sup>\u00a0General Election.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that the current attacks are just a test-round to determine whether they can block our websites to be accessed by web users,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is interesting that, of all the sites that have been attacked \u2014 regularly \u2014 it is always the DAP, PAS and PKR websites,\u00a0Malaysiakini<\/em>, even\u00a0Malaysian Insider<\/em>, that have been attacked,\u201d Pua said. \u201cBut we have never heard of reports where Barisan Nasional websites were attacked.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pua also called on all parties across the political divide to not resort to \u2018black operations\u2019 as the means of winning the coming elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe condemn this attacks and we hope for these attacks to stop.
