It was symptomatic of BN\u2019s mismanagement throughout the country.<\/li>\n<li>It had suffered eight continuous years of budget deficits (2000-2007), losing a whopping RM 57.1 million in 2005.<\/li>\n<li>Its cash holdings dropped from RM 372 million (1999) to RM 18 million (2007).<\/li>\n<li>PR set about to cut wastages and improve revenue collection, achieving a remarkable turnaround for MPSP.<\/li>\n<li>From 2008 to 2011 it registered continuous budget surpluses. Its cash reserves have climbed to around RM 78 million (2011).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4206\" title=\"story#2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story2-233x175.jpg 233w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timber Revenue<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Through having open tender of awarding timber concessions, PR states have achieved previously unheard amount of timber revenue<\/li>\n<li>Kedah reaped almost five-fold increase in timber royalties, from around RM 9 million (2007) to RM 79 million (2011)<\/li>\n<li>In 2008, Perak obtained RM 40 million royalty revenue through open tender of timber resources. By comparison BN took in RM16 million in 2007<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4209\" title=\"story#3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story3-262x175.jpg 262w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fighting Graft<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Penang and Selangor have initiated rewards programs to reward whistle-blowers who expose corruption in the states\u2019 administration<\/li>\n<li>A syariah court chief judge, Dato Yusof Musa, became the first person to receive RM 10000 integrity reward for exposing RM500,000 misappropriation of bail money at the Penang Syariah Court.<\/li>\n<li>Penang is the first state in Malaysia to be praised by Transparency International for improving its the regulatory environment in government procurement under its competency, accountable and transparent (CAT) governance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4212\" title=\"story#4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story4-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story4-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story4-260x175.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story4.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sand Mining<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2008 the state increased monitoring of and reformed the sand mining activities.<\/li>\n<li>Selangor state corporation KSSB took over sand mining and sales operations directly and issued mining licenses in open tenders and displayed open information of its mines<\/li>\n<li>Sand mining revenue for the state increased several fold, from RM 1.4 million (2008) to over RM 16 (2011).<\/li>\n<li>Under BN, Selangor only earned around RM 4 million per year in royalty from 2005 to 2007<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-4218\" title=\"story#5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story5-300x152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story5-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story5-343x175.jpg 343w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/story5.jpg 557w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instituting Transparency<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Selangor and Penang have enacted the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) in 2011 and 2012 respectively.<\/li>\n<li>Through FOI, the public can access documents under the purview of the state, including exco minutes<\/li>\n<li>Penang and Selangor are the first states in Malaysia to have all its excos declared their personal assets and income to the public<\/li>\n<li>Selangor formed the SELCAT, a public hearing committee conducted by the legislative arm to inquire into public wrongdoings, another first for the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clean and honest administration is now heard in Malaysia again, thanks to Pakatan Rakyat\u2019s conscientious effort to implement accountable and transparent governance.
