{"id":3232,"date":"2012-12-15T11:43:40","date_gmt":"2012-12-15T03:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/?p=3232"},"modified":"2012-12-15T11:52:16","modified_gmt":"2012-12-15T03:52:16","slug":"pr-to-create-a-sharing-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/pr-to-create-a-sharing-society\/","title":{"rendered":"PR To Create A Sharing Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>by TK Tan<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3233\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/jemputan-leader-pakatan-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3233\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3233\" style=\"padding-right: 20px;\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/jemputan-leader-pakatan-4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/jemputan-leader-pakatan-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/jemputan-leader-pakatan-4-261x175.jpg 261w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/jemputan-leader-pakatan-4.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pakatan Rakyat leaders at the DAP National Congress on 15th December 2012 in PISA, Penang<\/p><\/div>\n<p>PENANG \u2013 The new Pakatan Rakyat federal government needs to champion an economic philosophy that is in solidarity with the 99 percent majority so as to create a sharing society, DAP national secretary general Lim Guan Eng said in opening speech for the party\u2019s 16<sup>th<\/sup> Congress, here.<\/p>\n<p>Lim stresses that DAP\u2019s position on the economy which is based on the solidarity principle will encompass several points.<\/p>\n<p>Lim says that corruption is the most important obstacle for the Malaysian economy to move to the next level. \u201cTo eliminate the culture of corruption prevalent in BN\u2019s Malaysia, Pakatan Rakyat will be implementing 6 integrity steps and making the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission entirely independent with powers of prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the 6 integrity measures of fighting corruption are instituting public declaration of assets of the Chief Minister and the EXCO members, implementing open competitive tenders, barring family members from involvement in government contracts, protecting genuine whistleblowers, removing leaders with extravagant lifestyles and coming clean on political donations.<\/p>\n<p>He believes that under Pakatan Rakyat, Malaysia will be in the top 30 rankings, improving from its 2012 ranking of No. 54 in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index by the end of its first term.<\/p>\n<p>Lim also reaffirms its endorsement of the common economic policies of Pakatan Rakyat outlined in\u00a0<em>The Common Policy Platform<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Buku Jingga<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Pakatan Rakyat Alternative Budgets<\/em>, which focuses on uplifting the household income of the bottom 60 percent to boost domestic demand and hence the national economy as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the key policies will include a minimum wage policy, reducing the influx of unskilled foreign labour; abolishing monopolies and cronyism;\u00a0transparency; abolition of the North-South Highway toll and better provisions of essential government services such as public health, public housing, public transport, education, utilities and infrastructure,\u201d he elaborated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equitable Economic Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/lks-speech-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3238\" style=\"padding-right: 20px;\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/lks-speech-16-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/lks-speech-16-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/lks-speech-16-262x175.jpg 262w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/lks-speech-16.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Another key policy mentioned by Lim is to support the Equitable Economic Agenda (<em>Agenda Ekonomi Saksama)<\/em>\u00a0framework of the PR state governments that aims to abolish poverty, narrow the wealth and income gaps, end corruption, cronyism and nepotism, and provide equal opportunities, as well as genuinely assist the weakest in the society.<\/p>\n<p>Lim also reiterated DAP and Pakatan Rakyat support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium industries (SMIs) by providing support for market access, research and development grants, tax exemptions, grants and aid for the industries to upgrade in terms of technology and skills.\u00a0 \u201cWe will conduct a full revamp of the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (Inland Revenue Board) to end hostile and aggressive tax raids on SMEs\/SMIs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not forgetting Sabah and Sarawak, Lim re-emphasize PR\u2019s commitment to end the unfair distribution of oil revenues by increasing oil production shares from the present 5% to 20%, which will assist in\u00a0upgrading and building new infrastructure in Sabah and Sarawak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also stop the land grabs in Sabah and Sarawak to ensure that the native population retains their inherent native customary rights over their ancestral land and conduct a massive effort to help the poorer communities in Sabah and Sarawak in wiping out poverty by the end of our first term.
