Two DAP Members of Parliament (MPs) who are also members of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Agencies under the Prime Minister\u2019s Department have called for the committee to convene a meeting and summon Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dato\u2019 Sri Azam Baki to testify. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is following the corruption allegations against Azam Baki in which he is alleged to have own up to 2 million shares in a publicly listed company and the \u2018conspiracy of silence\u2019 in addressing the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public servants are barred from owning more than RM100,000 value of shares in any company. Furthermore, they are also required to declare all their assets to their heads of departments under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a joint statement today, the MP for Kota Kinabalu, Chan Foong Hin and MP for Kota Melaka, Khoo Poay Tiong both urged for Azam Baki to be investigated under the Parliamentary Special Select Committee, asserting,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Special Select Committee must give attention to the allegations against Azam. Thus, a special select committee meeting has to be called to summon the MACC chief to give his statement regarding the allegations,\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

Both MPs further stressed that they view the allegation against Azam Baki seriously and agree with the statement by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang yesterday that the Federal Government and MACC are facing an unprecedented level of \u2018trust deficit\u2019 due to such allegations. Moreover, it has also besmirch MACC and our country\u2019s reputation in the eyes of the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, Khoo and Chan confirmed that they have brought up the suggestion to summon Azam Baki for questioning to all other members of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Agencies under the Prime Minister\u2019s Department. These include its chairperson, the MP for Kuala Krai, Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n
