The veteran DAP lawmaker lauded the bright prospects of a confidence-supply-reform accord between the government and opposition to single-mindedly gain control of the Covid-19 pandemic<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

The Member of Parliament for Iskandar Puteri, Lim Kit Siang in a statement yesterday welcomed the comments made by Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin as well as Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah who are agreeable to a confidence-supply-reform accord between the government and the opposition that could bring stability to our country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This understanding is in line with what Kit Siang proposed over two months ago on 17 June whereby he mooted as a matter of personal opinion the idea of a \u2018political moratorium\u2019 to focus single-mindedly on the war against Covid-19. The Iskandar Puteri proposed the idea last June in response to the special Conference of Rulers meeting a day prior on 16 June which he said should be an occasion for the country to make a new start in the war against Covid-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the statement on 17 June 2021, the veteran DAP lawmaker asserted,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

\u201cMalaysians do not want any constitutional crisis in any form but a single-minded focus by every Malaysian, whether in the Executive or the Legislatures, to win the war against the Covid-19 pandemic \u2013 and this must remain the nation\u2019s single-minded focus whether it takes one or two years.\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

While the proposal by Kit Siang was ahed of the times then, the Iskandar Puteri MP welcomed the progress that Malaysian lawmakers have made since then in seemingly coming to an agreement to something similar to his political moratorium vision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin said that Bersatu is agreeable to an understanding between the government and the opposition to create a \u201cnew political landscape\u201d that would bring stability to the country. Meanwhile Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah called for a political ceasefire between the government and the opposition to ensure that Malaysia is able to focus on containing the Covid-19 pandemic and reviving the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the prospects of a confidence-supply-reform accord between the government and the opposition, much needed parliamentary and institutional reforms in Malaysia may finally take place. More importantly, it would also enable all political parties to abide by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong\u2019s decree for politicians to work together and manage the Covid-19 pandemic as a united team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s hope that Kit Siang\u2019s proposal for a political moratorium so that the country could single-mindedly overcome the \u201cexistential threat\u201d posed by the Covid-19 pandemic will materialise soon, for the sake of all Malaysians. – The Rocket. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
