The headline of the article said, \u201cRakyat welcomes the PERMAI Assistance Package, thank you Government for launching the assistance package AGAIN.\u201d Out of 23 Malaysians interviewed and quoted, all praised the PERMAI Assistance Package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on January 18 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"923\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-1024x923.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18919\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-1024x923.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-300x271.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-768x693.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-465x419.jpg 465w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc-960x866.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/sc.jpg 1262w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8220;<em>Government congratulates government&#8221; paid advertorial on pg. 4 of Sin Chew Daily National Edition<\/em> <em>dated 20.1.2021<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the front page of Sin Chew Daily Johor Edition on the same day sang a different tune. The headline of the Johor Edition front page said, \u201cBusinessmen and Rakyat: Too little too late, PERMAI Assistance Package unlikely to ease burden.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"634\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/SC-johor-634x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/SC-johor-634x1024.jpeg 634w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/SC-johor-186x300.jpeg 186w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/SC-johor-465x751.jpeg 465w, https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/SC-johor.jpeg 669w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Front page of Sin Chew Daily Johor Edition dated 20.1.2021<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One might wonder, why is the sentiment of Johorians so different from the 23 people interviewed and quoted by Sinchew\u2019s National Edition? Did the PERMAI Assistance Package leave out Johorians? Or is it because Johorians are just extremely difficult to please?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A close scrutiny of the aforementioned page 4 will answer these questions. <\/strong>I\u2019m not sure how many readers have noticed, but it says that the content of that article is \u201cnews information\u201d (\u201c\u65b0\u95fb\u8d44\u8baf\u201d) at the top left corner of the page. In other words, <strong>the content is actually a paid advertorial.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sinchew.com.my\/content\/content_2414043.html\">That same article<\/a> can be found online. <em>However<\/em>, I did not see any caveat stating that it was a paid advertorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sinchew.com.my\/content\/content_2380694.html\">another article<\/a> published online by Sin Chew Daily on 21 November 2020.&nbsp; Its headline was, \u201cBudget 2021: Aid comes in the nick of time and is of great help!\u201d This time, Sin Chew interviewed and quoted 36 Malaysians. All of them gave positive comments about the budget. <em>Again<\/em>, there was no caveat stating that this article was a paid advertorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article was later printed on page 4 of the Sin Chew Daily National Edition on November 22.
