That&#8217;s why we need an additional RM45 billion economic stimulus injection as <a href=\"https:\/\/dapmalaysia.org\/en\/statements\/2020\/08\/17\/30242\/\">suggested by DAP Secretary-General and Bagan MP, Lim Guan Eng.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a necessary step in order for us to quickly come out of the Covid-19 economic recession. Here&#8217;s everything you need to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Malaysia&#8217;s GDP contraction is the worst in ASEAN<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/image-2.png\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-2.png\"\/><figcaption><strong>Year-on-year GDP growth of major ASEAN economies<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Look at the table above of the year-on-year GDP growth of major ASEAN economies and you&#8217;d see that Malaysia sits on top for all the wrong reasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>Malaysia\u2019s GDP contraction of 17.1% in the second quarter is the worst in ASEAN.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, Thailand, a country which depends two times more heavily on tourism than us, just announced a smaller than expected GDP second quarter growth contraction of 12.2%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This goes to show that if  the Federal government continues to adopt a <strong>lackadaisical attitude<\/strong> that the economy will right itself, then<strong> we are in for a rude shock for the remainder of the year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although another RM45 billion fund injection may cause our fiscal deficit to widen to 9% of GDP, it will allow Malaysia to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Quickly come out of the Covid-19 economic recession. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Save businesses and jobs<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n&nbsp;\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. See full excerpt at the bottom<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a deficit of 9% of GDP would be tolerable, considering it would save people\u2019s lives by rescuing their businesses and jobs. In fact, a 9% deficit would not be the worst numbers on record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia\u2019s worst deficit to GDP were in these years: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>16.6% in 1982.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>15.6% in 1981.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n&nbsp;\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Despite a similar RM45 billion fund injection back in April, Bank Negara Malaysia\u2019s data shows that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Government&#8217;s second quarter operating expenditure fell 2.1% from a year ago. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>For comparison, there was a 5.2% increase in the first quarter.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the government&#8217;s attempt a political spin, even their own backbenchers don&#8217;t believe that the government is doing enough to mitigate recession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n&nbsp;\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.
