KUALA LUMPUR, AUG 19: DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into claims that there was a coup to topple the top leadership of the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n Lim at a press conference here today said an RCI of what he termed Malaysian elders should probe whether there was really an attempted coup to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, which was a claim made by BN Strategic Communications Director Abdul Rahman Dahlan in a recent interview.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI call for an RCI on whether there was an attempted \u2018coup\u2019 to topple Najib as Prime Minister, the sacking of Gani Patail as Attorney General, the sacking of the Deputy Prime Minister, the arrest and harassment of top government officials and whether they were related to the twin scandals of 1Malaysia Development Berhad and RM2.6 billion in Najib\u2019s personal accounts,\u201d said Lim.<\/span><\/p>\n Lim proposed the RCI to comprise of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Badawi, former Chief Justice Tun Dzaiddin, former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tun Hanif Omar, former Attorney-General (AG) Abu Talib Othman, and other top civil servants.<\/span><\/p>\n Lim\u2019s call comes om the heels of a contentious article published on <\/span>The Star Online<\/span><\/i> on Sunday, which reported allegations made by Abdul Rahman that the government had to employ \u201cpre-emptive steps\u201d to protect Najib from being \u201ccriminalised\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The \u201cpre-emptive\u201d measures were used to justify the recent cabinet reshuffle that impeded the investigation of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), removal of Gani, and the arrest of Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials. <\/span><\/p>\n Rahman Dahlan, however, later defended himself by saying that he was merely enumerating the \u201cconspiracy theories\u201d shrouding the1MDB scandal and Najib. <\/span><\/p>\n He also added that the story had been \u201ctwisted\u201d and urged the opposition to \u201cre-read\u201d it.<\/span><\/p>\n Najib has come under intense scrutiny in the aftermath of revelations that some RM2.6 billion were channeled into his personal accounts prior to the general elections in 2013. \u00a0An investigation by a special task force was set up, which was derailed when Gani was removed. <\/span><\/p>\n Lim said Abdul Rahman has put on an \u201coutstanding performance as a strategic communications director\u201d, stating that so far the latter had committed several public relation mistakes, such as using \u201cdiscredited tales\u201d told by Sarawakian editor Lester Melanyi, coining the term \u201ccriminalise Najib\u201d and the disastrous <\/span>The Star<\/span><\/i> interview.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMalaysia is a democratic country in an information era, and Malaysians are entitled to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the \u2018Last Days of July 2015 in Putrajaya\u2019,\u201d added Lim. -The Rocket<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" KUALA LUMPUR, AUG 19: DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into claims that there was a coup to topple the top leadership of the nation.
