KUALA LUMPUR, AUG 5: The DAP today submitted a memorandum to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to urge the latter to publicly announce more details of the alleged RM2.6 billion \u201cdonation\u201d to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.<\/p>\n

Saying that the central bank is obliged to monitor funds moving in and out of the country, DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Teo Kok Seong told a press conference here that a true account of the RM2.6 billion should be made public.<\/p>\n

Amongst the demands in the memo are to reveal how the monies were deposited and later withdrawn from Najib\u2019s account, the source and the purpose of the monies, the legitimacy of the funds and if they were in compliance with Financial Services Act 2013 and Anti-Money Laundering Act, and the current status of the monies.<\/p>\n

On July 2, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published an article accusing Najib of embezzling some US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) into his personal AmBank account prior to the GE13.<\/p>\n

A Special Task Force consisting the central bank, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General (AG) were subsequently delegated to investigate the financial scandal. The task force hit a roadblock when AG Gani Patail was removed from his post last month.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the MACC dismissed the claim that the RM2.6 billion transferred into Najib\u2019s account \u00a0were from 1MDB, but were \u201cdonations\u201d from Umno supporters.<\/p>\n

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who was also present to submit the memo, sarcastically invited BN\u2019s strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan to DAP\u2019s fundraising dinner scheduled on August 12, to see how \u2018donations\u2019 really work.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe (Rahman Dahlan) is welcome to witness how DAP gets its funding, the donors, the purpose of the donation, and the amount of donation,\u201d said Lim.<\/p>\n

Lim was responding Rahman Dahlan\u2019s previous statement which challenged the opposition to also reveal their funds as opposed to asking the governing body to reveal their funds solely.
