{"id":13211,"date":"2015-07-09T11:30:30","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T03:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/?p=13211"},"modified":"2015-07-09T11:30:30","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T03:30:30","slug":"kit-siang-whats-with-the-ambivalent-lawsuit-najib","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/kit-siang-whats-with-the-ambivalent-lawsuit-najib\/","title":{"rendered":"Kit Siang: What&#8217;s with the ambivalent lawsuit, Najib?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 9: To sue, or not to sue &#8212; that is the question.<\/p>\n<p>An opposition leader has\u00a0condemned Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for his ambivalent and ambiguous lawsuit against international newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for its reports alleging embezzlement by the premier.<\/p>\n<p>DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang in a statement said\u00a0\u201cFrom the letter of Najib\u2019s lawyers, there appears to be room for dispute as to whether the WSJ report as it stands is defamatory of Najib or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not know what is going to be \u00a0WSJ response to the letter by Najib\u2019s lawyers, but under these circumstances, nobody can rule out a scenario where the WSJ report remains while no legal \u00a0action is instituted by Najib\u2019s lawyers\u00a0 against WSJ.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11859\" style=\"width: 494px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/lim-kit-siang-university.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11859\" class=\"wp-image-11859 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/lim-kit-siang-university.jpg\" alt=\"lim-kit-siang-university\" width=\"484\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11859\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lim said this country should not allow anyone devoid of morals to govern this country<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cNajib has notched up another precedent, sending lawyers\u2019 letter which is ambivalent whether it paves the way for the Prime Minister to sue or not to sue Wall Street Journal,\u201d added Lim.<\/p>\n<p>Lim said that\u00a0even though no legal statement has been drafted to strip Najib of his position, Malaysians should remain adamant on this matter as this country should\u00a0not allow a person devoid of moral integrity to govern anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Najib\u2019s legal firm Hafarizam Wan &amp; Aisha Mubarak yesterday sent a letter to WSJ demanding a response within 14 days so that they could \u201cappropriate legal resource he (Najib) can take to seek redress in relation to the publication of these articles.\u201d In the letter, Najib also sought for clarification that WSJ stands by its articles about him.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, WSJ published a sensational report alleging that some US$700 million of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds had been transferred to Najib&#8217;s personal accounts. It later uploaded documents supporting their claim.
