\"WIRA5701\"<\/a>DAP has\u00a0pledged\u00a0its commitment to the\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHancur GST\u201d protest, promising that it will show up in full force on May 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe economy and Malaysians have been devastated by the effects of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST)\u00a0for almost a month now,\u201d DAP National Organising Secretary Anthony Loke said at\u00a0a press conference today.<\/p>\n

Loke said DAP members and supporters will gather at Jalan Sultan at 1pm, and will march towards Dataran Maybank to converge with other groups, after which the whole group will march towards KLCC.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge all our supporters to join us,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will see a sea of red in KL (Kuala Lumpur) on\u00a0May 1\u00a0to show the people\u2019s anger towards GST \u2013 the people\u2019s anger towards Barisan Nasional for imposing GST which burdens the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red is also DAP\u2019s theme colour, he said, speaking at the party\u2019s headquarters in Jalan Yew, KL, today.<\/p>\n

The protest is organised by the component parties of Pakatan Rakyat, and will also be part of the\u00a0Kita Lawan demonstrations.<\/p>\n

Loke highlighted recent incidents where a Barisan Nasional politician, according to him, demonstrated irresponsibility and arrogance regarding the implementation of the tax.<\/p>\n

Among them were Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan, who was criticised for suggesting to students that they resort to cooking their own food instead of eating out to reduce the burden of GST.<\/p>\n

Many on social media had criticised the UMNO leader, particularly for forgetting that students were not allowed to cook in their hostels.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also see UMNO Parlimentarians themselves, such as Sepanggar MP Jumat Idris complaining in Facebook about the increase in medical treatment for his child due to GST in a private medical facility,\u201d Loke said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven UMNO-BN Parliamentarians who are rich feel affected by GST, what then of ordinary people? \u00a0GST implementation will deter public spending \u2013 which will affect small businesses.\u201d Loke said.<\/p>\n
