{"id":12097,"date":"2015-02-11T19:59:30","date_gmt":"2015-02-11T11:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/?p=12097"},"modified":"2015-02-11T20:01:18","modified_gmt":"2015-02-11T12:01:18","slug":"chong-eng-an-ignorant-racist-for-jais-criticism-says-pembela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/chong-eng-an-ignorant-racist-for-jais-criticism-says-pembela\/","title":{"rendered":"Chong Eng an &#8220;ignorant racist&#8221; for Jais criticism, says Pembela"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/po_01.1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-12099\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/po_01.1.jpg\" alt=\"po_01.1\" width=\"387\" height=\"476\" \/><\/a>Criticising Jais for confusing a woman\u2019s aurat with an unlocked house is a sign of an \u201cignorant racist\u201d according to Pembela.<\/p>\n<p>Following DAP Chong Eng\u2019s statement criticising Jais\u2019s Friday sermon connecting a woman\u2019s aurat (modesty) and rape, Muslim NGO Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Pembela Islam (Pembela) Chairman Mohamed Hafiz bin Mohamed Nordin (pic) has responded, reportedly labeling her as a racist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPembela regrets the attitude of prejudice and provocations by a group of DAP leaders who are becoming more and more insulting to the religion of Islam,\u201d he said in a statement made yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The DAP Wanita Chief had criticised Jais for a Friday sermon which urged women to cover up their \u2018aurat\u2019 (modesty), and that this would prevent rape. She said that the sermon smacked of victim blaming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does Chong Eng know about aurat and its link to adultery and rape?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>Chong Eng had quoted studies on the psychology of rapists, saying that it was more of an issue of power play between the perpetrator and victim, rather than a case of the woman not \u201ccovering up\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, Pembela says that the statement by Chong Eng was a an act of provocation from a \u201cgeneration that was given Malaysian citizenship\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hafiz also questioned if Chong Eng had ever heard a \u2018Khutbah\u2019 (sermon) before, asking if it was right for Muslims to do the same thing with Chong Eng\u2019s religion. The sermon is available for download at e-masjid.jais.gov.my for public reading.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from congratulating the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for calling her in to investigate the matter, he urged the Atttorney-General to prosecute Chong under the Section 298 Penal Code for her \u201cbig mouth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chong, the DAP Wanita Chief, has maintained that her statement was made in defence of women&#8217;s rights and was not meant to insult the religious authorities.-The Rocket<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Criticising Jais for confusing a woman\u2019s aurat with an unlocked house is a sign of an \u201cignorant racist\u201d according to Pembela.
