{"id":10756,"date":"2014-10-31T19:37:25","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T11:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/?p=10756"},"modified":"2014-10-31T19:38:31","modified_gmt":"2014-10-31T11:38:31","slug":"what-has-happened-to-gani-patails-promise-to-review-sedition-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/what-has-happened-to-gani-patails-promise-to-review-sedition-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"What has happened to Gani Patail&#8217;s promise to review sedition charges?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Lim Kit Siang, MP for Gelang Patah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/lks-3-650x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10757\" style=\"padding-right: 20px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.therocket.com.my\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/lks-3-650x400.jpg\" alt=\"lks-3-650x400\" width=\"386\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a>The Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail\u2019s recent explanations have only reinforced public opinion that he has abused his discretionary powers and guilty of double standards in not prosecuting Perkasa President Ibrahim Ali for his threat to burn the Bible while going on a spree with blitzkrieg of sedition prosecutions against Pakatan Rakyat leaders, activists and intellectuals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Datuk Stanley Isaac, who was formerly head of prosecution in the Attorney-General\u2019s Chambers, said Gani\u2019s reasoning that Ibrahim\u2019s threat had no seditious tendency and that Ibrahim had \u201cno intention to offend or provoke\u201d are \u201cflawed in law\u201d and had not allayed public discontent over the AG\u2019s decisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Isaac said it \u201cboggled\u201d \u201chis mind how the AG could excuse Ibrahim on grounds of his good intention when the law says otherwise and that it also \u201cboggled\u201d his mind how burning the bible would defend the sanctity of Islam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gani\u2019s explanations also prompted former Court of Appeal judge, K. C.
