Teluk Intan: Lying Gerakan should reflect on failed pledges

By Teo Nie Ching, MP for Kulai

Gerakan should check the facts before wrongfully accusing DAP Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud of being a liar.

In the press conference on May 21, Dyana already mentioned that her mother wasn’t even there for Perkasa’s 1st AGM and she did not affiliate herself with Perkasa.

And in yesterdays press conference, Dyana’s mother, Yammy Samat also reiterated that she had left Perkasa before its first annual general meeting (AGM) and that she had not been active in the NGO for a long time.

When asked if her mother held any post in Perkasa on May 21, Dyana said that she was not aware of it and that it’s best to ask her mother.

So, how can Gerakan accuse her of lying?

More importantly, after seeing Perkasa and having grown up in an UMNO family, Dyana still decided to join DAP proves that she clearly disagrees with their principles. So, why should her mother’s membership with Perkasa or any organisation be an issue now?

If Dyana’s untactful reply renders her a liar, I wonder what Gerakan should call themselves and BN, who has failed to fulfil many of its pledges in its election manifesto, such as:

1. reducing car prices by 20 to 30 per cent;
2. Lowering broadband fees by at least 20 per cent with guaranteed bandwidth;
3. Building 1,000,000 affordable houses;
4. Bringing Malaysia into the “top third category” of the best education systems in the world;
5. Reducing intra-city tolls; and many others.

And if BN is unable to fulfil pledges in its GE13 election manifesto, what guarantee do we have that BN candidate Mah Siew Keong will honour his words this time around?
