On “Allah”, Congratulations to You!

On Yeo Bee Yin, Selangor State Assemblywoman for Damansara Utama

uslim demonstrator displays a flag outside Malaysiaís Court of Appeal in PutrajayaToday must be a happy day to many of you, as you may believe that you have won over “Allah”.

First of all, I would like to congratulate PERKASA and other NGOs who have screamed, shouted, and threatened again and again that the word “Allah” should be exclusive to Muslims in Malaysia. Congratulations! You have won the ‘holy war’, go celebrate and be merry!

Secondly, I would like to congratulate the four judges who dismissed the application of leave by the Catholic Church yesterday. If you made this judgement to protect your own religion, congratulations! For you have sacrificed your professionalism to protect “Allah”. Wow, how sacrificial are you!

Thirdly, I would like to congratulate the Home Ministry. For it was you that filed an appeal against the high court ruling that the word “Allah” can be used by The Herald. Congratulations! Your appeal is staying in favour by the Federal Court. You must be laughing now.

Fourthly, I would like to congratulate UMNO. For you have social engineered Malaysian brand of Islam so deeply in the society that the holy war of “Allah” has now successfully distracted the eyes of Malaysian Muslims from the rising cost of living, your blatant corrupted practices and your dismal ability to govern and lead. Oh UMNO, you are such a political genius!

Fifthly, I would like to congratulate the Christians in Sabah and Sarawak. For today is the day you see the true colours of the institution that many of you have vehemently pledged support to for the past 50 years.

As for me, call me whatever, catch me if you like, charge me if you can, I will continue to believe and stand on the principle that everyone on this land is entitled by the Federal Constitution the same liberty to practice our own religions and to express ourselves. On the principle of justice and liberty, “Allah” should never be exclusive to any particular group of people whether they are Muslims, Christians, Buddhist or whatever.

Lastly, to my fellow Malaysians who are BM speaking Christians, remember this, they may take “Allah” away from The Herald but they can never take God away from your heart. Be strong and courageous, continue to love and pray for them who persecute you for they know not what they are doing.
