Ibrahim Durum has failed as Melaka DUN Speaker

The BN-led Melaka State Government must stop using the pandemic as an excuse to hide their own incompetence!

The ridiculous decision by the Melaka DUN Speaker, Datuk Wira Ibrahim Durum to allow for the DUN sitting to be shortened from 4 days to only 1 day has sparked criticism from the public.

Without any valid reason, Ibrahim approved the motion by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Sulaiman Md Ali to cut the sitting short, thus leaving many pressing matters concerning the welfare of the rakyat to continue to be neglected from being debated in the Melaka DUN.

In a statement yesterday, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Iskandar Puteri, Lim Kit Siang shared the same sentiment and criticised the decision, saying that Ibrahim Durum has failed as the Melaka DUN Speaker for allowing such a motion to be passed. The DAP veteran asserted,

Ibrahim Durum has failed as the Melaka DUN Speaker in frivolously allowing the four-day Malacca Assembly to be shortened to one day when Malacca had the second lowest daily new Covid-19 cases since Polling Day on 20th November and no Covid-19 death on Dec. 27, 2021

Kit Siang further stressed that the decision is even more perplexing considering how throughout 2021, there has only been ONE normal sitting held in the Melaka DUN.

The Iskandar Puteri MP also agreed with DAP State Legislative Assemblyperson (ADUN) for Ayer Keroh, Kerk Chee Yee that there were not sufficient reasons for cutting short the special meeting to 1 day. Instead, efforts should have been made to ensure the legislative body is not compromised by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Previously on Thursday (29 December 2021), Chee Yee criticised the decision to cut the DUN sitting short, saying that such a move shows that the BN-led Melaka State Government is incompetent in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, during his speech in Melaka DUN, Chee Yee also revealed that the Melaka Health State Executive Council (Exco) has only answered ONE question raised in DUN throughout the whole of 2021. Now that the latest sitting is cut short, no question and answer session was allowed, meaning that during the Covid-19 crisis, the Melaka Health Exco has only answered 1 question within a year!

Our country has been dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic for more than 2 years now. It is time for the BN Melaka State Government to stop using the pandemic as an excuse to hide their incompetence. – The Rocket.
