PH State Governments heed the King’s advice, lead the effort to reconvene State Legislative Assemblies

 

The Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan PH State Governments are all pushing for the immediate reconvening of their respective State Legislative Assemblies (DUN) following the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree

 

Following the statements by both the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah as well as the Conference of Rulers yesterday which decreed that Parliament and DUNs must reconvene as soon as possible, all PH State Governments have led the way in pushing for the reopening of both state’s respective DUNs.

In a statement on 17 June 2021, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari iterates that the Rulers’ decision was in line with the desire of the rakyat and will be pushing for the reopening of the Selangor DUN as soon as possible. He also welcomed the statements from both the King as well as the Conference of Rulers for their commitment to maintain the supremacy of constitutional democracy in Malaysia so that the process of checks and balances among the branches of government can be implemented continously.

Amiruddin stressed,

 

“I will have a discussion with the Speaker of the Selangor DUN today to begin planning the implementation of the decree as soon as possible.”



The Selangor Menteri Besar further asserted that the results of the meeting will then be presented to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj for approval in order to get the Sultan of Selangor’s blessings for the reconvening of the state’s DUN.

Meanwhile, Penang Chief Minister (CM) Chow Kon Yeow in a statement on the same day also confirmed that the Penang government is currently in the midst of writing to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consult with His Majesty in regards to holding a state assembly in accordance to the provisions of the Federal Emergency Laws.



Furthermore, the Penang CM expressed his gratitude to His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers for urging Parliament and DUNs to reconvene as it is an important platform to discuss measure in curbing the spread of Covid-19 and other concerns faced by the rakyat during this scathng pandemic.

Chow stressed,

 

“The Chief Minister will be getting approval from the Penang State Governor to write to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong regarding the intention of the Penang State Government (to reconvene Penang DUN) for His Majesty’s consideration under the provisions of Section 15(1)(b) of the Emergency Ordinance.”

 

Chow followed up with the Penang State Government’s initiative to reconvene the state’s DUN the next day on 18 June whereby he shared how they have has had a fruitful discussion with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri regarding the matter. The Penang CM elaborated on how the State Legal Advisor presented the State Government’s position according to the Emergency Ordinance and that Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has consented to bring the request to convene the Penang State Assembly to DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Agong.



Concurrently in Negeri Sembilan, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also iterated that the PH State Government is ready to convene the state’s DUN as soon as possible with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as well as Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan.

On 18 June, Aminuddin stressed that the state government under his tutelage has met with the Yang Dipertua Dun, Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar to discuss measures on reopening the Negeri Sembilan DUN.

The Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar asserted,

 

“I will be presenting the fruits of our discussion with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir to get His Majesty’s blessings for the state’s DUN to reconvene as soon as possible.” 

 


Earlier on 17 June 2021, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang opined that His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers’ decree must be endorsed by all Malaysians. The PH State Governments has definitely heeded the call by the King and Conference of Rulers and are now leading the effort in reconvening their respective State Legislative Assemblies. The Perikatan Nasional Federal government must follow suit and reopen Parliament as soon as possible, in accordance to the wishes of Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Conference of Rulers. – The Rocket.
