DBKL enjoys indulging in useless endeavours, says DAP

Instead of creating the biggest sofa and bags in the world, Kuala Lumpur Town Council (DBKL) should carry out projects beneficial to the people.

A DAP lawmaker said this in response to DBKL’s announcement to set a new record in the Guinness World Records and Malaysia Book of Records by making the longest sofa and the biggest handbag in the world with used cloth from jeans and shirts.

“Biggest bag in the world, longest sofa in Malaysia – it is almost as if DBKL has nothing better to do,” said Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.

According to Lim, DBKL’s efforts signal its “preference for wasting its resources on unnecessary things”.

“Imagine a DBKL that is as enthusiastic about having the cleanest public toilets or the public parks in the Malaysian Book of Records and the Guinness Book of Records.”

“Or on occasion, having a competition and giving out prizes for those who catch rodents in shoplots or collect the most amount of rubbish from the Klang river,” he added.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib had, in a Bernama report yesterday, said the bag would be able to fit two Perodua Myvi’s. Expected to be completed on May 29, the public can step into the bag to feast their eyes on thousands of other smaller bags made from various used items.

“Let us all hope that the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Ahmad Phesal leaves behind a great legacy before the end of his contract this July,” says Lim.
