2012 Change we must

by Lim Guan Eng

I would like to wish all Malaysians a happy and prosperous new year. We must always remain united and stay focused to face the challenges of today and the future.

We want Malaysians to be prosperous, healthy, educated, free to choose and exercise their rights as well as living with dignity. This is no empty wishes. We have done it in Penang and we want every single Malaysian to enjoy the good life, with no one left behind.

Penang has shown the way how a good government is run and how leaders should look after everyone and not behave as racist and extremist leaders of only Malays, Chinese or Indians. The strength and the devotion which DAP leaders and members bring to this endeavour will light the fire can truly enlighten Malaysia.

To do this we need to have a serious change in government and in governance. Change must mean giving power to the people to implement a national integrity system through appropriate laws and institutions, to punish those who undertake corrupt actions, and to reduce opportunities for corruption.

The rakyat want integrity not corruption, open tenders not negotiated tenders, freedom not oppression, rule of law instead of injustice, and a greener and cleaner government.

Corruption will be the main issue in the next general elections where the people can either choose to support Barisan Nasional that has stolen our future for the last 55 years or choose Pakatan Rakyat to prevent our children’s future from being stolen again.

Whatever we decide, change we must.
