March for Freedom – Nurul Izzah Anwar

By Nurul Izzah Anwar, Vice President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat

unnamed (3)The political persecution of Anwar Ibrahim through the judiciary is because he is the Principal threat to certain UMNO leaders’ grip on power.

This is just not a case about Anwar Ibrahim but the world must be made aware that a much wider and insidious systematic oppression has been going on in Malaysia.

The world must know that voices of freedom are persecuted using foul and archaic colonial laws while the shrill of extremism and racism are mega phoned with impunity- sanctioned and protected.

Now the world already knows we don’t have a free judiciary. And the world will and must know we have no free media, no free and fair elections too.

We shall show the world how the most fundamental democratic right of elections are currently being further destroyed through voter suppression and gerrymandering. It is time we bring the fight of freedom for all Malaysians to the world that our democracy, our judiciary, our electoral process are also imprisoned.

We are confident and comforted that the truth as history and recent events in the world in particular Sri Lanka shows that the march of freedom and rise of the people will ultimately prevail.

Therefore today those who think their power and wealth built on oppression and injustice can last forever, must know their time is up.

We shall continue to fight, continue to march and will never surrender for a Better Malaysia.
